PEACE

Acrylic
January 2007
36 x 24 inches

An article I read about the assassination of Hrant Dink, and pictures I saw of his widow Rakel releasing white doves as a symbol of peace inspired the painting Peace.

On January 19, 2007 a seventeen year-old Turkish Nationalist assassinated Hrant outside his offices in Istanbul, Turkey. He was the columnist and editor of Agos, a bilingual Turkish-Armenian weekly newspaper, that was regarded as the voice of the Armenian community, in which he commented about the Armenian Genocide by the Ottoman Turks during WWI.

October 17, 2009 at the (AMAA) Armenian Missionary Association of America’s 90th anniversary celebration Peace was presented to the honored guest Rakel Dink.

This painting has a personal significance since my husband passed on four months ago. I envision letting go of his spirit, in peace, to His Lord.
