The Feeding of the Multitudes

Between the four gospels we are given six accounts of Jesus miraculously feeding thousands of people at a time.  Whenever I imagine myself in one of those crowds, however, it still feels like a very personal and intimate act—that my Lord cared enough about my temporal needs to stretch the very laws of nature in order to satisfy my hunger, as well as that of so many around me.  These stories always remind me of our Eucharistic Prayer C (Holy Eucharist Rite II, BCP) when, after the elements are blessed, the congregation speaks in one voice: "Risen Lord, be known to us in the breaking of the Bread."

 

I have never painted a mural before, and I don't often show my works in progress.  In order to stretch beyond the boundaries of my well-worn
