God's gonna trouble the waters

Digital photograph, Puerto Rico, 2009

A young child's neglect of her dolls at the pool caught my eye. The falseness of the body types and the way in which they related to each other brought to mind another reality—the cultural forces of vanity, abuse, and violence. But the clear water is not far away and the drops of water show that the figures have already taken at least one dip.

Our God denies no one and no society the opportunity to be transformed. The truth is both terrifying and redeeming: God's gonna trouble the waters.
