Merci Henri

Carol Webb 1 |2 | 3

hand appliqued, hand quilted, and made of cotton fabric with polyester batting

22" x 24"

1998

Merci Henri is based on figures in paintings by Henri Matisse. The significant element of this piece is its small size. It is an emotional self-portrait--an expression of a desire for joy and love--but it's very small and very safe. If I step in front of it, you can't even see it. At the point in my spiritual life when this quilt was designed, I was particularly tentative in my willingness to claim the grace.
