Birth, Life and Afterlife

2001

As an artist I view icons as a visual reminder to pray. One glance at an archtypal religious image invites me to come to that quiet place and pause for prayer. This pause frequently inspires to deeper contemplation and meditation.

The collaged images I am creating are originally founded in photographs I take in my garden. I then seek the archtypal figure and add other elements to complement the original photograph. These figures are cross-cultural, from as diverse place as Iona, off the coast of Scotland (the alpha and omega head from the cloisters of St. Mary's Abbey) to the Buddhas of Southeast Asia (the pair of faces).

I enjoy the exploration of combining images that integrate my garden with my spiritual life.
