"Magnum Mysterium #1 to #9 " is a series inspired by the motet, O Magnum Mysterium (1952) by Francis Poulenc. As part of the choir at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Portland Oregon singing this choral work, I was struck by its strength and beauty. The layering of various media, together with the central gesture, are for me a visual image and metaphor of the words and harmonies of the music. I delight in exploring the blending of alphabet and image as gesture, moving beyond letters as language and information.

I find intriguing the shapes and flow of letters when written right to left and then left to right - boustrophedon style "as the plow turns", used by the Greeks C. 900 to 600 B.C. I delight in the exploration of ways to incorporate inner gesture, letterforms, language, images and
writing patterns as calligraphic expressions of my feelings and ideas.

Es una serie inspirada por Francis Poulenc. Como integrante del coro en la Catedral Episcopal de la Trinidad, el canto de esta obra coreografica me estremecia por su fuerza y belleza. Los hermosos cantos y baladas en sus diferentes formas, junto al gesto central, fueron para mi una imagen visual que a la vez es metafora de las palabras y armonia de la musica. Me deleito explorar la mezcla entre la letra y la imagen, que fue como un gesto que se convertia en algo mas que simples letras, algo como un lenguage o fuente de informacion.

Encuentro intrigante las formas y fluidez de las letras cuando se escriben de derecha a izquierda, y luego de izquierda a derecha - Estilo boustrophedon, "al volteo del arado'', que fue utilizado por los Griegos entre 900 a 600 A.C. Me encanto la exploracion de diferentes formas de incorporar gestos interiores, estilos de letras, lenguage, imagenes y estilos de escritos como expresiones caligraficas de mis ideas y sentimientos.
