Courage: Jimmy and Jerry

Jimmy: I remember one little ten year old Spanish girl whose father died. We took her down to the site and said a prayer, then we took her by the church and gave her an angel pin and told her she would always have a guardian angel.

Jerry: Most cops don't get to bond with people. Nobody calls us for happy occasions. Out of something bad something good has come. This is good. The friendships we've made. The relationships.
Jimmy Abbananto and Jerry Krusch, partners in the NYP force.

The series "COURAGE" is a part of a photographic project carried out at St. Paul's Chapel, New York City, one block from Ground Zero. I have been given an honor and a privilege to be the official photographer at St. Paul's, photographing police, firefighters, national guard, engineers, construction workers and other relief workers.

A selection of the photographs were presented as part of a lecture, A Healing at Ground Zero at Harvard Medical School in December and can be viewed at the St. Paul's Chapel website, www.saintpaulschapel.org.
