The work Witness was inspired by my involvement, as a relief volunteer, with the Seamen's Church Institute in the days immediately following September 11th. I not only saw the towers fall but also the response of the Church. The church in the lower right is St. Paul's Chapel, literally across the street from ground zero. The center of the image It's Time To Talk was extracted from a Seamen's Church Institute photograph. It is an image of a book, found cover up, in the debris of the towers just outside St. Paul's. The church stood witness both to the faith and to the best of our tradition in the face of the attack and continues to do so.
