Laura Smith

Jesus is with us now as he always has been in the lives of the poor, the marginalized, the suffering. Whenever I am tempted to look away and walk past, I know it is a signal to look at; to be present; and to acknowledge the holy. Holding up the unnamed homeless as martyrs (perhaps saints, and therefore, icons) to our failure as a society and as individual Christians is a reminder to me to look for, and respond to, Christ in all faces.

I was a graphic designer for many years, and although I am officially retired from that, it seems there is always a logo or stationery system that needs doing. In terms of art-making, I am now interested primarily in typographic and calligraphic pieces, icon writing and other personal painting projects.
