Image and Likeness

In the coming season of Lent we are particularly conscious of Jesus, fully human and fully God, and the profound consequences of this incarnation through his life, death and resurrection. God would die for me and suffer in a human body to do so? Through this greatest act of love and sacrifice, he overcame the very bonds of death preparing the way for human flesh flesh like our flesh to enter the very gates of heaven. The events of this most marvelous life is revisited every Spring in the Christian Year, always renewing our desire to know what the image of Christ was like when he walked the Earth; what his image is today as his Spirit continues to live among us. How and where do we see the image of Christ? Where in our churches, Christian practices, homes and our world do we see the reflection of his face, the joy of his smile, the warmth of his love, the awe his presence inspires? How do we see ourselves and our communities growing into the likeness of Christ? How might the vision of his glory grow ever clearer and nearer to our hearts as visual artists, and how might we reveal that glory?
