Jay Prignano

Dark Paint

The Saturday after the tragedy I went to Washington Square Park. It was night and I looked at the memorial that was erected there. The park was washed in the reddish glow of the street lamps and I noticed the image of the painter painting at night using candlelight. I was struck by the contradiction of painting and light and how he was painting in the absence of light. The image reminded me a little of the way Rembrandt made dark images and I made this image.
