Symmetry
(Oil on canvas, 44" x 52")

Symmetry

This is the meaning of the loon’s wild quaver,
a declaration of precisely this place, this space:
thus, it says, afloat on the bodied water as the
canoe glides, paddle resting on the gunwale
and ear straining for the next announcement.
There’s no seizing it by force. The hour cannot

be bought; it can only be lived or brokenly
remembered, casting your thoughts back to
the impossible perfection – limited by your
walls, your digital imperatives, your failure
to believe that earth and sky will ever again
breathe freely, or ever attain such balance.
