Steven Schroeder

Lhasa - (and on the road) 7 June 2004

Text and painting

Artist Statement: After attending the "Beat Meets East" conference in Chengdu in June 2004, I traveled to Tibet. The text in this piece was composed on the bus from Xigaze to Lhasa, after the stop it describes. The image is a detail from a postcard sized painting (watercolor and acrylic on 140 lb cold pressed paper, 2020) in the series "study the wildflowers, how they grow." The painting was scanned at 2400 dpi and divided into small segments for a close reading, one of which appears here.

Bio: Steven Schroeder is a poet and visual artist who lives and works in Chicago. More at stevenschroeder.org
