Text and painting

Artist Statement: Chicago has been home base for me for almost 50 years, and I have studied it as I have studied other cities, by walking. The text in this piece was composed on one of those walks. The image is a detail from a postcard sized painting (watercolor and acrylic on 140 lb cold pressed paper, 2020) in the series “study the wildflowers, how they grow.” The painting was scanned at 2400 dpi and divided into small segments for a close reading, one of which appears here.

Bio: Steven Schroeder is a poet and visual artist who lives and works in Chicago. More at stevenschroeder.org
