Sacred Circles

Pamela Perry

hand-pieced and hand-quilted cotton

36"W x 72"L

2001

private collection

The quilt's many-colored fabric circles and the variegated stitched circles overlap like ripples on a pond, so that all the circles are connected to each other directly or indirectly, just as we are. The colors are restful and meditative, as is the process of making the quilt by hand. The cross emerged on its own. The name Sacred Circles commemorates the first Sacred Circles women's spirituality conference at the National Cathedral, as well as the Sacred Circle group at St. Margaret's which grew from that first conference and still thrives today.
